Today was an amazing day of real world learning for JLHS students! The CTE Advisory Committee and Mr. Proctor- along with many helpers - pulled off a Career Day with practice interviews for students, a presentation by Michigan Works, and a gym full of booths with job opportunities, college opportunities, and other future careers! Great job everyone!

This is a great opportunity to recognize the amazing work our JLAS Teachers do! The Michigan Department of Education wants to provide students the opportunity to say positive things about their teachers, so they know they’re appreciated. They will feature the videos on MDE platforms during May for Teacher Appreciation Month! Find the Submission form here: http://bit.ly/3xIYhpe!
Tips: Take the video on a video camera or cell phone, but make sure the video is clear and the student can be heard. Record something SHORT. 15 to 30 seconds is just right. Record something POSITIVE. Remember to smile! Mention something SPECIFIC. What does the teacher do that your child appreciates? Your child should include their FIRST NAME and their GRADE. Clearly state the teacher’s LAST NAME and the SCHOOL NAME. It’s OK to have multiple students in the video. It’s great to have family members in the video too!
Due to unsafe conditions as a result of the weather, JLAS will be closed today including Fitness Centers. Any evening activities will be decided later today. Stay safe, read a good book!

During the hour-long discussion, students discussed topics including writing, publishing, and "teenagedom". They were also offered a future opportunity to zoom with students from Mr. Albom's Have Faith Haiti orphanage/school. Congratulations!

We are so proud of our Cardinal Club crew! Our recent after-school project had our students trading backpacks for screwdrivers and paintbrushes to build and decorate these beautiful birdhouses.
While the birdhouses look amazing, the real magic was watching the teamwork in action. From measuring and sanding to choosing the perfect colors, these kids learned that everything is better when we play and work together. Helping a teammate hold a board or sharing a favorite paint color—that’s what being a Cardinal is all about!
A huge thank you to everyone who supports our after-school programs. We’re building skills, building friendships, and building a better home for our local birds!
