

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE J-L TRACK TEAMS!
The track teams traveled to Indian River for the regional meet on Friday, May 20th, 2022.
Brooklyn Latuszek & Allie Nowak kicked off the day by going 1 2 in pole vault, both qualifying for the state meet and with Allie breaking the school record by vaulting 8 feet 9 inches.
They were followed up a half hour later by the boys 4x800 relay who broke the 38 year old school record by 7 seconds. The relay team of Jacob Wartenberg, Ronin Vaden, Malaki Gascho, & Blake Fox head to the state meet in 2 weeks where they are seeded as a top 3 relay.
As the meet continued there were a host of other qualifiers for states, from the boys Cordel Campbell, Logan May, & Joe Perry qualified in the 4x2 relay.
Jacob Wartenberg, Ronin Vaden, Joe Perry, and Blake Fox won the 4x4 & thus advanced.
Blake also qualified individually by winning the 400 dash. Josiah Hall heads to states in both the 110 & 300 meter hurdles, while Malaki Gascho rounded out the qualifiers by winning the 2 mile.
The boys did just enough to win their third consecutive regional championship beating the sprints powerhouse Lincoln Alcona 158 to 154.
Not to be outdone the girls won the 4x2 & 4x4, with Carlee Campbell, Brooklyn Latuszek, Lydia Hummel, & Natalie Zochowski going in the 4x2 & Carlee Campbell, Allie Nowak, Rosalinda Gascho & Natalie Zochowski in the 4x4.
Carlee, Natalie & Rosie also advanced to the state meet in individual events all taking 2nd place, Carlee in the 100, Natalie in the 200 & 400, & Rosie in the 100 & 300 hurdles.
Madalyn Agren dominated the distance races winning both the mile and 2 mile, with her friend Allie Nowak finishing just behind her in the mile, the dedicated training partners now get to race together at the state meet.
Many of the girls who didn't qualify for the state meet still scored points for the team, which led the girls to win back to back regional titles with 209.5 points over Inland Lakes 154.
It was a fun day at the track, dampened only by the early departure of some of our friends from Gaylord St Mary's who received horrible news of the storm during the delay.
The Cardinals head back to Inland Lakes on Wednesday for the conference meet.

Two school records were broken on 5/20/22. Allie Nowak broke the pole vault record with a vault of 8’9”.

The boys 4x800 team of Ronin Vaden, Malaki Gascho, Jacob Wartenberg and Blake Fox
broke the 1984 record with a time of 8:30:99!
